The Green and the Gold.
The Gold Coast is often called "The Green and the Gold" because there are mountains and rain forests that run alongside the golden beach, just a short drive away.
Popular attractions there include
'Natural Bridge' (map)
'Tamborine Mountain' (map)
Lamington National Park (map)
Canungra (map)
South Stradbroke Island
Looking for a big golden beach with practically nobody around?
Just a short distance from Southport is South Stradbroke Island, and you may take a Broadwater boat taxi (map) or a Ferry (map) to that location.

Aside from the restaurants, there are some fun activities in Surfers Paradise at night.
There is a place called "Infinity" in Surfers Paradise open until 10pm

Currumbin Aboriginal Day/ Night Group Tour
Aboriginal Tours is between 3pm and 6pm (map).
The tour starts with a cuddle with friendly koalas (Souvenir photo included), followed by a live Aboriginal dance show, and hand feeding “free-range” kangaroos. Feed the wild lorikeets which have been an institution on the Gold Coast for the past 67 years before heading to the Sanctuary Café Deck for your traditional Aussie BBQ Buffet. Your journey finishes with an Aboriginal Ochre Ceremony and a farewell Dance performance. See more photos here.
There are also the Glow Worm tours that take you up to the mountains at night time, and down into the natural bridge cave to view the glow worms.
This is very popular and a number of different companies operate such tours.
Here are three, though you might like to check out others:

Other things
AquaDuck is a bus/boat with tours - it's been here a long time and seems quite popular.
There are many other attractions – see them here.
Of course the oldest most popular spot is the Surfers Paradise beach itself (map). Caution: parking officers are ready to pounce if you forget to feed their hungry parking meters. To avoid them you may consider private parking, like this carpark. |
